Swim Rant

Yeah, so this podcast has me ranting about how to swim. It's my opinion that too many triathletes new to swimming look to Total Immersion only for the stroke instruction. They completely miss the boat on how to actually practice. Stroke technique is only half the picture.

I also play audio from Chris and I wandering around in the woods in 40 degree temps. We talk about heart rate, ferns, and my dalmation's fashion wear.

Music during the show is a killer tune by Sickidz - "The Flys". You can look them up under the "psychobilly" genre at music.podshow.com.

I swam competitively for 15 years until I quit in my sophmore year in college - completely fried. I didn't get back into the pool for 15 years because I couldn't dream of going through the boredom and pain of swimming the way I had at 20. TI helped me focus on efficient swimming technique. The hard yardage is tolerable because I care about swimming efficiently. I'm know reading Breakthrough Swimming by Cecil Colwin. It's section on feel in the water is awesome.

I listened to your swim rant recently and it resulted in an epiphany. I've never been a swimmer and I have been so concerned about doing it right that I overlooked the fact that I need to actually build swimming endurance. Your bike analogy was perfect. It put the concept into words I could actually understand. Thanks. I really enjoy your podcast and your new site is cool too. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the 2 comments on swimming. Back in the day, I did the Coors biathlon series (now duothlons) and no tri's because I didn't know how to swim effectively. Now in my 50's the running is much harder on the body and must swim occasionally. I will give it a try and see what happens. Love your podcasts.
