Hey Brett, Great results It puts the pro cycling's power into prospective. Allen Lim posted Floyd Landis maximum power on bicycling.com for different intervals of time during Stage 13 of the Tour de France back in 2005. Floyd's 5 sec peak power was 894 watts, 1 minute was 509 watts, and 30 minute peak power was 258 watts. Now I'm really curious where I stand.

The lab testing doesn't allow you to ride like you do in the real world. By the time you do several minutes at a time at increasing wattage, you've got nothing left to give at a maximum effort.

I turned around and went for a real world bike ride and put out a maximum of 966 watts outpacing a dog. I'm a much bigger guy than Floyd, which inherits me more power, but all that extra weight means that Floyd most definitely would have dropped me in that situation.

I could also do those other numbers in a ride (and so could you), but defintely not in critical points in longer ride where the average pace is in the upper 20s or lower 30s.

If you get a powertap, maybe you should try to match those numbers. I bet you could come close over time. But try to do a stage of the Tour? Good luck!
