ZenTri 602 - Alan Couzens and San Diego

Endurance sports research scientist Alan Couzens talks about sodium, hydration, and what makes somebody "uncoachable."  I also go over the swimming HR strap from Garmin, a great swimming tip, and cruising around San Diego on foot.

Great episode Brett. Feels like I need an exclamation point there but I'll resist the temptation. Long time listener, first time commenting. I like the idea you presented of the PLPCEM (Pursed Lips Puffed Cheeks Exhale Method) while swimming. Seems like it would work and I look forward to trying it.

Have you ever heard of using a Mio Link (optical wrist HR monitor) on the same arm as a Garmin to record HR during a swim? I haven't tried it but supposedly it will sync HR data each time on the recovery when your arm is out of the water. Seem pretty cool but you also have to use an activity profile such as run since Garmin doesn't record HR during swim activities but perhaps this has changed with the new HR strap?

I also appreciated the low-key, zen training log and your time in SD without a bike. Have you heard of Spinlister.com? You can rent bikes of all sorts from private individuals for a fraction of the price. Next time you find yourself without a bike but in need of a spin, it might not be a bad option.

Keep up the good work.
