Podcast - Zen Goals

Don't forget that tomorrow (Friday) is the IRONBABY!  You can join in on the fun by following along on Twitter.com/ZenTriathlon.

Goal setting and achieving is an interesting animal.  Setting big goals way off in the future such as, "I want to be ripped." or "I want the British out of India." are simply too big and don't tell you how to actually accomplish those goals.

Instead, a better approach is to do the correct things right here and right now that a person who would achieve those goals would be doing.  You have unlimited number of opportunities every day to eat right and train right, just like a pro triathlete does.  "What would Craig Alexander do right now?" is a question you could ask yourself continuously to triathlon greatness.

I talk on this episode about this concept in detail.  I also play a clip from a Zen talk in Austin about this exact same thing and how Gandhi used it to take back India from the British.  If he could free an entire country, you can eat your veggies.

30 Days to a Habit Change - Day 9

I'm down to the wire with the IronBaby.  I'm using the todo list to checkoff the last few things before the race.

  • Adjust the cleats on shoes.
  • Make potato wedges.
  • Make liquid fuels.
  • Calculate meter lap times in case I have to swim at a different pool.
  • Triple-check race bike and tires.
  • Plus a whole lot more little stuff.

Just checking off the items and letting the work take care of itself.

30 days to a habit change - day 8

I wonder if the actual habit I'm building is posting every day.

I was doing pretty good yesterday, bit I get frustrated with the lack of time to get stuff done.

I quit caffeine a while back. I realized it was a cheap trick to stay awake to get stuff done. I just go to sleep instead. I feel a lot better, but I get fewer hours to do things. It's funny because go to sleep the second I feel tired at night. I sleep great and have energy all day long. That's what our bodies are supposed to do anyway.

But the habit is taking effect. I'm finding it easier to pause and put something on my todo list. And then I give it a date if needed.

30 Days to a Habit Change - Day 7

I've got all the items for my race in a nice long google tasks list. What's nice is I can assign dates to tasks and then they show up in google calendar. All I have to do is execute the list/calendar and everything is ready!

Some notable items still to do are significant. I want to re measure both the bike and the run. I also want to make potato wedges for backup fuel. All this is scheduled days ahead of time.

30 Days to a Habit Change - Day 6

Mmmm...  Almost forgot to post today.  Everything is going great, just lost track of time.

I'm in full taper mode for the IronBaby, catching up with coaching, and trying to get everything lined up.  Busy, busy, busy!

Created the list for the Ironbaby, just posting to it when I think of things.  I'm going to sort it by things that need to be done first to last.  Love the Google Tasks!
