What would you do with this bike?

Click here or on the pic for a larger image.

Blink140.2 is giving me this sweet 1973 Schwinn Varsity for me to do with whatever I want. It is so perfect, I almost don't want to mess with it. Alas, it weighs a ton and has so much potential as either a classic fixie or commuter.

I was at my LBS earlier this week and they had a similar green Specialized commuter that was stunning. I mean, the thing was coooool. It was a Specialized Langster Seattle.

This thing is super cool when viewed in person. It even has wood fenders and a bottle cage mounted to the bars for your coffee.

I've got the spare flat bar and can swap a seat out. Minimal investment and I might have something really cool! What do you guys think?

OMG, I had a bike just like that when I was in elementary and middle school, only so much smaller of course.

That has commuter written all over it. Some paniers and a coffee holder and some fenders, and it will be the hippest in town.

You know, the good Karma would be unbelievable for anyone who took old bikes and give them second life for commuting--especially if you start someone in bike commuting by providing them a ride.

Since they are super common I would go Single speed and paint it black

Sweet bike. I say make it a commuter. My husband refurbished a Schwinn like that last summer and sold it at a silent auction to raise money for our church's youth group. You have a sweet ride, enjoy!

Dude... if you get anything other than bamboo fenders you can't call yourself a hippie!
