Sure. You can train for one with 12. But then you'll be out on the race course for nearly 17 hours. 17 extremely painful hours. You'll find a few people that do it in less, bit they usually have decades of training behind them and are the exceptions to the rule. A pro triathlete probably could not train for a year and still do a 13 hour ironman.

4-5 hours of training PER DAY is what it takes to get to ironman? That's like a half-time job. I gotta stick with being a 70.3-hopeful...

That's still 18 hours a week. Shouldn't it be possible to train to compLete (as opposed to compete) in an Ironman in less than that?
