"Roll" Models

Triathletes have a terrible reputation for crashing while mounting and dismounting their bikes.  They are usually far worse at it than other cyclists, so it is something to work on.

You don't know how much you can improve until you see somebody do it well.  For your learning pleasure, check out this guy!

Podcast - The S.O.S. Triathlon 2012

Download the show by clicking here!

Come with us to the S.O.S Triathlon in New Paltz, New York! This is an incredible show, capturing audio from one of the crown jewels of multisport. Listen in as we do an EIGHT STAGE race!

Here is Emily and I at the finish area, with a view of six states at the top.

The race starts off with a 30 mile bike ride, with the last 6 miles climbing up a serious grade.

Then there are seven alternating run-swims, with some fun "crash-into-the-water-and-go" swim starts.

The swim exits are just as entertaining.  Imaging climbing up out of this three different times while running twenty miles on trails!

The last run is only half a mile, but it climbs 700 feet to the peak.  Right about here is where I realized I had 90 seconds left to break the 5.5 hour mark.

The full set of photos can be found here.

More links and fun to come!  Check back over the next few days and enjoy.

The 2:3 Breathing Freestyle Method

At 3:20 into this video, you can see a nice demonstration of the 2:3 breathing method.  It is a great way to increase your oxygen uptake, which is possibly your biggest limiter in long-distance swimming.

No doubt, it is a bit awkward to get used to.  Trying it made me feel like I was learning to ride bike rollers in the pool.  I had it down by the end of an hour of practice, so it is totally learnable.  Gary Hall does make a good case for using it, so you might want to check it out.
