How to Run Like a Freak on Nothing but Olive Oil and Honey

I ran 28.5 miles in less than 24 hours on nothing but 3 tablespoons of olive oil and honey.  And this was the last part of a week of running 54 miles total, with no soreness whatsoever.

What's the point?  The point is that there is no point... except to take what you think about nutrition and turn it on it's head.  Quit listening to what everything everybody else says and grow a pair and test the stuff out on yourself already!

Hey Brett, I'm glad to see you try this although, I'm not surprised at the results. I believe you would have found the same results consuming nothing at all. Your body stores enough energy for a 90-120 minute run. The honey just provided a delay to tap into those stores. The big question is "What is the dietary process for consumed lipids?". If you've come across a piece of literature that explains this process please share it. I've done my own search and haven't come across anything. What is known is that a Lipid (fat) is an energy powerhouse and if the body would process it effectively, then we've got the holy grail of endurance nutrition: small package/big energy return. Given my limited knowledge of nutrition I suspect the body is very slow to process consumed lipids and while it provides a slow release of energy, it's too slow for any significant endurance event. Regardless, you've inspired me and I'm going to give this a whirl on my long run (20mi) this weekend. I'll let you know the results.
