ZenTri Podcast 536 - What is Zen?

Click here to listen or download.

What is Zen? What is the point of Zen and the Art of Triathlon?  Listen in as I take you down the rabbit hole, describing how Zen actually works, what is "enlightenment", and much more.

The Bruce Lee video above highlights "the finger points at the moon" concept.  Also, here's the Wikipedia entry on Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, the original inspiration for ZenTri.

Do you train like a badass?  Ultra distance racing requires it, and I detail how to get it done.

I also cover Felt's new IA triathlon bike and Ironman Chattanooga.  Enjoy!

Coach Brett,

Yesterday I was introduced to your podcast and website. I have been listening to the Rich Roll podcast for a couple of months, and he recently posted an episode interviewing you.

I have since checked out your website, and listened to several of your podcasts. Your most recent podcast titled “What Is Zen” is very good. I grew up with zen teachings from my father, and so I understood what you are saying.

We are all trying to create equilibrium in our lives, but at the same time our lives are constantly changing. We get 'stuck' trying to maintain equilibrium instead of growing with each new experience. There are two types of people: Those with external locus of control, and those with internal locus of control.

We are all a combination of these two types of people, but we weight ourselves heavily to one side or the other. Zen, for me, has been the growth of moving from an external locus to an internal locus.

Peace, tranquility, 'center', and the ability to 'roll with the punches' is an internal locus of control trait.

How can I contact you privately?

Thanks for your podcast,

Tim
